McNamara Family History
McNamara is a surname of Irish origin. It originated from the region of County Clare. The name began with the chieftain Cumara, of Maghadhair in county Clare. Cumara is a contracted form of Conmara - hound of the sea. His son, Domhnall, who died in 1099, adopted the surname Mac Conmara, or son of Cumara, thus becoming the very first MacNamara. The name has survived relatively unmodified as MacConmara in Irish and Mac (or Mc) Namara in English, to this day.Select Audience

McNamara
My maiden name is McNamara and I've been trying to find any info on where exactly we came from. I have many who say that it was Ballina, County Mayo. Of particular interest is my great great grandfather John McNamara who married Winifred Rowan (Ruane, Roan, Rohan). Both were born around 1799, had a child Thomas 26 Dec 1825, immigrated to Canada between 1826 and 1832. They lived in Buckinham, Quebec and had 6 children; Thomas, Patrick, Andrew, John (my great grandfather married Ellen Rowe), Mary and Ellen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I am a Canadian and am searching to find out about my 2X great grandmother's family. Her name was Ellen Mcnamara, born in County Tipperary sometime between 1828 and 1843, came to Canada in early 1850's. That's all I know about her, hopefully someone can help me with more info.
Thanks.?
