WRENN Family History
Recorded as Wren and Wrenn, this is an English surname. It is one of a large group created from nicknames, often from the names of birds and animals, from some supposed resemblance to their best-known characteristics. These include Lark, Nightingale, Jay, Hart, Lamb, and in this case the wren. The derivation is from the Olde English pre 7th century word "wrenna", in Middle English "wrenne", and as such was used for a small, busy and quick- moving person. The spelling as Wrenn was the most usual spelling until the end of the 17th century.Select Audience
